Alloy Metallurgy & Physical Properties

Avyan Aluminium specializes in Al-Mg-Si (6000 series) heat-treatable alloys. Understanding the thermomechanical history of these extrusions—from billet casting to artificial aging—is critical. Our materials offer a supreme balance of structural strength, superior surface finish capability, and excellent resistance to galvanic and atmospheric corrosion.

Billet Casting & Homogenization

We supply materials extruded from direct-chill (DC) cast billets that have undergone extensive high-temperature homogenization (typically 580°C). This critical step dissolves coarse primary Mg2Si particles, modifying iron-rich intermetallics from plate-like β-AlFeSi to more rounded α-AlFeSi structures, vastly improving extrudability and downstream surface finish.

Quenching Dynamics

To achieve maximum mechanical properties, the extrusion must be quenched rapidly upon exiting the die (press quenching). Our suppliers utilize controlled air/water mist systems to keep alloying elements in solid solution, perfectly prepping the microstructure.

Precipitation Hardening (T6)

Profiles are subjected to artificial aging in calibrated ovens (e.g., 175°C for 8 hours). This precise thermal cycle precipitates fine, homogeneously distributed needle-like β'' (beta double prime) phases throughout the aluminium matrix, maximizing yield stress parameters while maintaining necessary ductility.

Surface Finishing Parameters

Protecting the highly reactive aluminium substrate against environmental oxidation and galvanic corrosion while enhancing final aesthetic appeal for visible structural elements.

Electrolytic Anodizing (Type II) Electrochemically converts surface to porous aluminum oxide. Standard architectural clear finishes (AA10 to AA25 specs). Layer thickness accurately controlled from 10 to 25 microns depending on required abrasion and weather resistance.
Electrostatic Powder Coating Thermosetting polymer powder applied electrostatically and cured at ~200°C. Qualicoat certified processing available in a complete RAL color matching spectrum. Optimal dry film thickness: 60 - 80 microns.
Mill Finish (Bare Extrusion) Untreated, raw surface directly emerging from the extrusion die. Exhibits a thin, natural oxidation layer. Highly suitable for concealed fabrication assemblies or elements requiring specialized post-fabrication painting.
